President Muhammadu Buhari has hailed Iyeneobong Essien, a 16-year-old Nigerian girl, for finishing second at the Champion of Champions World Golf Championship Invitational in Northern Ireland.
This was contained in a statement issued by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, at the State House in Abuja.
According to him, “the President salutes the achievements of the youngster, who currently tops the junior player cadre in Nigeria, and has been credited with over 20 medals since she won her first medal at the age of five.”
“President Buhari joins all Nigerians in celebrating this great teenager who is doing so much for the country by demonstrating that hardwork and determination pays, wishing the golfer more spectacular success in her career.”
Iyeneobong Essien, 16-years-old Nigerian golf star clinched second position at the Champion of Champions World Golf Championship Invitational, competing in the 16-19 age category which held July 26-28, 2022.
She played on two challenging courses – the Faldo Course and the Castle Hume Course at the Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
Not only has these courses hosted several PGA Tournaments; they have carried the weights of renowned golfers.
Of note is Rory Mcllroy, World number 2 at the recently concluded British Open played in the Faldo course as a junior golfer.
The young golf Tsar is on a climb to world acclaim as she is already walking the paths that great names before her have trod.
