Governor Godwin Obaseki may soon be leading headlines in Nigerian media for the wrong reason, as the Edo State Government has allegedly fallen into a financial scandal.
A Civil Society Organisation, George Uboh Whistleblowers Network (GUWN) has in a letter to the Governor, alleged that over N66 billion Naira fraud have been perpetrated mainly through withdrawals from several Edo State government accounts.
The withdrawals according to the letter of enquiry were made by the Director of Finance and Appropriation (DFA) Ighodalo Adaghe, and other officials attached to the Directorate Of Government House all under the watch of Governor Obaseki.
GUWN alleged that in one of the transactions, 10 million Naira was withdrawn 150 times via cheques signed by Chairman of Edo State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) John Osagie Inegbedion and the DFA.
The Civil Society has asked Obaseki and the government officials to respond within seven days of receipt of the letter after which GUWN will sue the officials not cloaked with immunity and join Obaseki at the end of his tenure.
