A coalition of Anti-corruption and Pressure groups, Malpractice and Anti-Corruption Project, (MACIP) and the Niger-Delta Alliance For Good Governance (NDAGG), have called on the Presidency to direct anti-graft agencies to beam searchlight on the activities of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
The groups in a statement jointly signed by Yahaya Suleiman, Secretary (MACIP) and Karo Edor, Coordinator (NDAGG) disclosed that plans were in top gear to protest on Monday 11th, September 2023, to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to better drive home the points.
According to them, despite the good intentions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Socio-economic Development of the Niger-Delta region, several economic decisions taken in the Ministry of Water Resources which was headed for some time by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack were inimical to the drive of the presidency.
The Leadership of the Groups made the Statement in Abuja, while commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive style of government, stressed that the MDA is not carrying out any meaningful and impactful project in the Region.
They frowned, particularly at the activities of the Niger-Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources whose sole mandate is to see the flooding and erosion control of the region.
“In the last few years we have not seen any life touching projects of the agency, instead they are busy enriching themselves with projects we don’t see or have impact in the lives of our people. We know what the Ministry is doing at other Basin Development Authorities, especially the irrigation and provision of farming equipment and fertilizer to farmers. We shall make more details available to relevant agencies during the protest. we call on well meaning Nigerians and Niger Deltans to join the protest. ” The statement read.
