A Civil Society Organisation, Unemployed Youths Association of Nigeria has applauded the contribution of former Executive Vice President of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mr Adokiye Tombomieye, to national building.
The group in a statement to newsmen, stated that after years of what they described as meritorious service, Adokiye should be considered for further engagement by the federal government in higher capacities.
UYAN President, Comrade Ebi Zuofa, stated that the group in an earlier publication attacked the person of Mr Adokiye, lamenting that the details presented were not factual as they were maliciously provided by a source.
Zuofa said, On the 19th of June, 2024, we published in several media, corruption allegations against Adokiye Tombomieye, who was the former Executive Vice President- UPSTREAM of NNPCL. We have found out that the information we published are not true after proper investigation.
“I, Comrade EBI ZUOFA, on behalf of the Unemployed Youth’s Association of Nigeria, accept full responsibility for our actions and retract our previous publication and statement about Adokiye Tombomieye.
According to the statement, “We sincerely apologize to Adokiye Tombomieye for all the harm and embarrassment we may have caused him, and his family. As a result of the lies and allegations of corruption, we put out about him. We want to state categorically that all the previous information we published on this platform concerning the said individual was a work of fiction.”
“Hence, we plead with those who have read our previous publications to disregard the information and we want the general public to be aware that as an organization, sometimes, we are fed the wrong information. In this case, we failed to clarify and verify the authenticity and originality of the information before publication.”
“Adokiye Tombomieye is an innocent Nigerian and a law-abiding citizen with an impeccable record of public service. We are sincerely sorry for the lies we have told about his record of service and about the several allegations of corruption we leveled against him.” The statement read.
