Journalists in Abuja are in different shades of mourning over the demise of two of their colleagues.
They are mourning the death of Mr. Ben-Bright Mkpuna, a former Treasurer of the union and publisher of watchdog online media. The second is Mr. Boyede Basiru Momoh, an information officer in the Federal Ministry of Information.
Executive and members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, yesterday organised a night of tribute in honour of their colleagues.
The event which held at the FCT Council, recorded massive turnout of members of the union, including four former Chairmen of the Council, Comrade Amos Duniah, Comrade Malachi Uchendu, Comrade Jacob Eddy, and the Council’s Elder, Comrade Timothy Elerenwe.
In his remark, NUJ, FCT Council Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche, called on Journalists to be deliberate and diligent with their health care.
He stressed the need for healthy feeding by cutting down on late meals and ensuring frequent exercise.
Ogbeche said the wave of Covid-19 was already increasing body counts across the globe hence caution should be the order of the day.
According to him, “while we try to follow the protocols, it is in our hands as individuals to take our safety serious. We pray for the repose of the souls of the departed and also pray for the hands of death to stay away from the union.”
In their separate sermons Ustaz Muyideen Adisa and Pastor Peter Emuekpere admonished the living to lead a life of peace with a consciousness of eternity.
A candlelight procession was held to honour the souls of the deceased.
