The Leadership of United Patriots (UP) party has said it will secure a land slide victory in the scheduled June 19 by-elections for Gwaram Federal and Sabo-Gari State Constituencies of Jigawa and Kaduna States respectively.
The National Chairman of the party Chukwudi Ezeobika in a Statement issued in Abuja Monday, Confirmed the emergence of Murtala Mustapha and Hamza Dauda as United Patriots party Candidates for Gwaram Federal ad Sabon-Gari State Constituencies respectively.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, had declared a vacancy for Gwaram Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, following the death of a member, Yuguda Hassan Kila, who died on March 4, 2021.
On the other hand the Sabon Gari State Constituency seat in Kaduna State initially occupied by former Speaker Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, was declared vacant in April after the house accused the lawmaker of absconding from all Assembly activities for more than a year without any reason.
The ex-speaker’s absence without just cause from one-third of the meetings of the Assembly for one year was in contravention of Section 109 (1)[f] and (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
Continuing the UP national chairman said,”United Patriots (UP) having endorsed the emergence of the most credible and competent Candidates for the elections through the Party Primaries held Monday, May 24, 2021, the Party calls on all patriotic Nigerians within the Constituencies concerned to turn out enmerse and lend their overwhelming support to the Party’s Candidates for the complete transformation of the areas come June 19, 2021.
“Knowing the immediate needs of the concerned Constituencies, United Patriots (UP) is now set and well positioned to make life meaningful for all Nigerians through the ballots.
“We therefore call on INEC to ensure that the Rule of Law is upheld in the scheduled elections to guarantee a free, fair and credible electoral process vis a vis the subsisting unanimous judgement of the Court of Appeal in APPEAL NO. CA/ABJ/CV/507/2020, ACD & 21 ORS AND ATTORNEY GENERAL FEDERATION AND INEC.
“We wish to state that any disregard for the Rule of Law or wrongful exclusion of United Patriots (UP) in the conduct of the scheduled elections would render the entire exercise null and void.
“We remain committed to one united, equitable and progressive Nigeria and will give to Nigerians, a government that they truly deserve come 2023.”
The party urged INEC to ensure that the rule of law is upheld in the conduct if the by-elections in order not to render the exercise void.
