Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and senator for Abia North in the National Assembly, believes the South East shouldn’t be excluded from the advantages of being a part of the mainstream political landscape.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Kalu expressed his displeasure that President Bola Tinubu received only 4% of the vote in Abia State as a whole in the 2023 presidential election.
He pointed out that given the variety of personalities the APC had in Abia State at the time of the polls, the President’s only 4% overall score was concerning.
He urged APC members to get together and concentrate on helping the APC win in Abia in 2027.

The senator from Abia North said that Governor Otti was not included in the discussions and that the purpose of the stakeholders’ meeting he called at his home in Abuja was to encourage unity among APC members and to rally the support of Abia APC members for the party.
While stating that only the electorate can choose the fate of the leaders, Kalu utilised the comments to make it clear that he did not criticise Governor Alex Otti or his performance. He also insisted that he does not publicly discuss his successors in office.
“For example, in 2019 when I joined the APC, President Buhari made 68% in our constituency, but President Tinubu came back to make only 4% in the entire Abia in 2023, he was not happy with the political numbers of Abia.
“He has a friend like me, and he has other people who are his friends, and we can only make 4%. Even I can’t even believe it.
“The South East as a whole has to belong where other Nigerians are sitting”, Kalu said
