The South-East Youth Assembly of Nigeria (SEYAN) which is an umbrella body of all South-East youth in Nigeria pleads with members of the general public to disregard the statement made by a group of individuals parading themselves as members of Conference of South-East youths as it does not reflect the idles and believes of South-East youths.
SEYAN in a release signed by the Speaker, Hon. Felix Ijegalu stated that it is only a mechanism used to extort money from the presidential candidate of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) knowing fully well that South-East youths are not drumming support for the candidacy of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Part of the release reads: The South East Youth did not endorse the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress.
“We wish to use this medium to issue a stern warning to anyone or group using the name of the South-East Youth for financial and economic gains.
“We also want to reiterate that one of the objectives of SEYAN is to protect the interest and welfare of South-East youths. That is why SEYAN will not tolerate further extortion with the name of the South East.
“Every South Easterner is allowed to vote her choice as we are in a democratic state but to endorse a candidate majority of our youth are not in tandem with in our name is sacrilege and will be met with strong resistance.
“Every South East Youth is aware of the candidacy of Mr. Peter Obi and with his wealth of experience in effective and efficient governance and a good track record as a astute business man and statesman, we are not ready to trade him for peanut.”
