The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has said that he would reveal his preferred successor in January 2026.
In the government house arcade in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, Makinde gave a speech on Monday during the 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture.
The grand chief imam of Ogbomoso land, Yunus Olushina Teliat, gave a lecture titled “Benefits of Being a Good Neighbour: An Islamic Perspective.”
The gathering was attended by political and religious dignitaries, including Rashidi Ladoja, a former state governor.

In a brief speech that primarily was delivered in Yoruba, Makinde said the lecture gave him the chance to thank the state’s Muslim leaders for their backing of his government.
The governor of Oyo also asked for further prayers for his government.
As his term in office slowly comes to an end, Makinde stated that he is not a “lame duck” and that he is aware that some people are thinking about pursuing “other ventures.”
Speaking to well-known socialite Abbas Oloko, Makinde joked that his billboard in the state’s Isale Alfa neighbourhood shouldn’t be taken down.
The governor of Oyo stated that his prospective successor’s image would be shown on the billboard in January 2026.
Regardless of their religious beliefs, Makinde urged Muslims to spend the month of Ramadan to consider the necessity of peaceful cohabitation in society.
“I’m not yet a lame duck. Please leave my billboard at Isale Alfa,” the governor said.
“In January 2026, we know that political activities will start. I will tell you the picture of the person that will be installed there.”
Makinde has been governor of Oyo since 2019.
