In the wake of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Supreme Court’s ruling about the party’s leadership issue, the Labour Party (LP) conducted its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
Nenadi Usman, a former finance minister and current chair of the party’s caretaker committee, chaired the meeting, which was held on Wednesday at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
Prominent members of the party were there, including Abia state governor Alex Otti, LP presidential candidate Peter Obi, and his running partner Datti Baba-Ahmed.
The party’s candidates for governor of Imo state and Edo state, respectively, Olumide Akpata and Athan Achonu, were also in attendance.
Julius Abure, the factional chairman, threatened to punish Obi and Otti for calling the meeting, and this meeting only occurred 48 hours later.
Senators and members of the House of Representatives were among the several LP politicians who attended the Usman-led gathering despite the threats.

The NEC voted in favour of Obi, Baba-Ahmed, Otti, the caretaker committee headed by Usman, and the Obidient movement throughout the session.
In her opening remarks, Usman appealed to “members of the former National Working Committee (NWC), to sheathe their swords and join in the process of rebuilding the party”
