Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has made a major political announcement by formally declaring his intention to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration came after a high-level, private meeting that took place at Asaba’s Government House on Wednesday night. In a “strategic realignment” ahead of the general elections in 2027, key party officials welcomed Governor Oborevwori, who was elected on the PDP platform in the 2023 gubernatorial votes, into the APC.

Also present at the high-level stakeholders’ meeting were former governor and 2023 PDP vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, members of the National and State Assemblies, as well as several commissioners.
The defection signals a significant turning point for Delta State, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has held power since 1999.
