The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission for the second term of five years.
The confirmation followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on INEC, led by Senator Kabiru Gaya, which submitted its report at plenary and recommended Yakubu for confirmation.
The senators, who spoke before his confirmation, described him as highly qualified for the job.
Recall that allegations of N2 billion given to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan to facilitate the confirmation of his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari to a fresh five-year tenure, plagued the wake of re-nomination of Mahmood Yakubu.
The President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, washed his hands off an alleged collection of N2 billion bribe to hasten the re-appointment of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
