Ahead of the 2027 elections, Chijioke Edeoga, a former candidate for governor of Enugu State in the Labour Party, has returned to the People’s Democratic Party.
At the PDP’s state secretariat on Monday, Edeoga, a former federal legislator and commissioner in a number of roles, declared his defection.
He attributed his choice in large part to Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership.
“I am impressed by Governor Mbah’s visionary, disruptive, and transformative leadership, which has inspired me to return to the PDP,” he said.
Edeoga stressed the need for unity and a united front ahead of the 2027 elections, even though he understood that his choice would not be favourably welcomed by everyone.
“I know that my decision to return to the PDP may not be appreciated by some, but I believe it is time for us to unite as a family and form a formidable front,” he said.

Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, the chairman of PDP in Enugu State, greeted Edeoga’s return to the party and credited Governor Mbah’s “audacious leadership” for it.
“We are excited to have Edeoga back in the PDP fold, and we are confident that more former members who had left the party would soon return,” he said.

Mr. Obiora Obegu, the Chairman of the Isi-uzo Local Government Area, called Edeoga’s homecoming “a step in the right direction.”
“With Edeoga’s return, the PDP will now become stronger and more united, free from distractions and rancour,” he added.
Other prominent members of the Labour Party accompanied Edeoga at the PDP secretariat in GRA Enugu to express their support for his choice.
