The Lagos State House of Assembly’s Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has been reinstated. Obasa was reinstated following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda, who stepped down from the role with immediate effect.
During the plenary session on Monday, he was once again the speaker.
Obasa was impeached by the legislators in January due to a number of charges, including intimidation of coworkers, bad leadership, high-handedness, and frequent tardiness to plenary sessions.
More than 90% of the lawmakers backed the impeachment.
Obasa reacted negatively to his impeachment, claiming that the legislators had not removed him as speaker following the constitution.

He also called the alleged financial misappropriations “impossible” and refuted the accusations of corruption made against him by parliamentarians after his dismissal.
What is my standing in the House? I firmly think that I will continue to speak until the proper action has been taken. Obasa had denied the accusations of corruption against him and stated, “If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way and I will not contest it.”
Prominent All Progressives Congress leaders, including former governors of the states of Osun, Ogun, and Lagos states Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, and Akinwunmi Ambode, respectively, stepped in at President Bola Tinubu’s request in an attempt to address the leadership problem.

Meranda and other senior main executives resigned Monday following a reconciliation conference with all parliamentarians.
“This is a notice of resignation as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly,” Meranda announced during the plenary.
The Speaker of the House, Obasa, was then reinstated.
He praised the members of parliament and urged love and unity during his speech during the plenary session.
He said, “We want to assure Lagosians that we have resolved and determined to serve their interest and protect their interest always.
“Our major responsibility is to represent them, and that’s what we have been doing.
“What is happening here today shows that the Lagos State House of Assembly is capable and is a House of integrity. It is a house that has an internal mechanism to resolve issues in the interest of the institution and our party.
“Today is not the day for speech making but to celebrate my colleagues and thank them for all they have been doing. I am sure we will continue to work together in peace, love and harmony.”
