The All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA) Nasarawa state chapter has threatened that it will boycott the forthcoming council election over plots by the ruling party to write result in its favor.
The threat was contained in a communiqué issued by the APGA state and local government council chairmen in a consensus reached, which was signed by the Public Relation Officer, Ezekiel Ayuba and made available to newsmen in Lafia the state capital.
APGA being the strongest opposition party in the state alleged that the impromptu schedule of the council election by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, (NASIEC) was designed only to favor the ruling party.
The communiqué also raise issues of the high cost of nomination form like other political parties, accusing the NASIEC on insensitivity to the economic hardship being faced by citizens including prospective candidates,.
It noted that the intention is to favor the ruling party because they will use tax payers money to purchase the nomination forms.
More significantly, APGA pointed out that the NASIEC chairman, Barr. Aliyu Wandai was an APC card carrying member.
The party therefore expressed doubt that the chairman would conduct a free and fair election because of his loyalty to his party.
The party however raised the alarm that the NASIEC permit only the ward returning officer to enter the result into form 8a and 8a(1) and that only the NASIEC chairman will announce the result, in which circumstance whatever the chairman who is an appointee of the ruling party declares remained valid irrespective of whatever happens.
The statement alleged that what is planned by the NASIEC is to announce an already written result by the ruling party.
Hence the party said it would not participate in the council poll because it would amount to wastage of resources and time.
