The candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Anambra state November 6, governorship poll, Senator Andy Uba, narrowly escaped death from gunshot fired by police officer on duty during his campaign on Saturday.
The incident reports said happened when he was addressing a rally at the Ekwulobia Township Stadium in the Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that only providence, saved the APC standard bearer’s life as the bullet narrowly missed him while on the podium addressing supporters.
According to an eye witness a gunshot fired by a policeman on duty missed him narrowly.
The crowds of supporters were amazed that the gunshot which was just about a foot off the position of Uba did not hurt him.
In utter astonishment by the incident, Uba shouted, ”My friend what is it? What is it? A television cameraman who was closed to the policeman stated that the suspected cop was drunk as alcohol, was oozing out from his mouth.
Another bystander noted “I guess it was an accidental discharge. There was no threat whosoever to warrant that shot. We thank God for his protection; this should have been a disaster.
It was further gathered that a retired Deputy Inspector General of police who was at the occasion had taken up the matter to ensure proper disciplinary measures against the erring policeman.
Not deterred by the incidence Uba Continued with the rally as he told his audience that he was in the governorship to liberate the state from the shackles of underdevelopment it had been subjected to over the years by the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA government.
According to him “My first assignment is Enugu-Onitsha”. He declared that Anambra became liberated the day President Muhammadu Buhari handed the party flag to him in Aso Rock.
“My first assignment is Enugu-Onitsha road. It is impassable. Work will begin on the road immediately. That is the essence of being at the centre” he said.
He also stated that he had defeated his enemies and he is determined to liberate the Anambra state from retrogression and underdevelopment.
He thanked his teaming supporters and urged them to mobilise for the party’s victory at the poll.
According to him, the power to win an election resides with the electorates, urging them to ignore the rumours that APC had perfected plans to rig the poll.
He also reminded those against him that it is God that makes kings, noting that if God had ordained him nobody can stop it.
