Some members of the Delta State House of Assembly have alleged that the Speaker, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, never disclosed to them the cost of their vehicles.
The lawmakers are disgruntled by the amount expended on their cars by the Speaker.
Their dissatisfaction is following a report by The Union Nigeria exposing how the Speaker and the house’s clerk, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori and Mrs Lyna Ocholor, were summoned and interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja.
The report exposed how vehicles were purchased at the tune of N1,621,226,250.00 (One Billion, Six Hundred and Twenty one Million, Two Hundred and Twenty Six Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty Naira), by the Speaker.
Following the report, The Union Nigeria learnt that, the speaker, called for a closed door meeting with lawmakers, yesterday, to douse the rising tension amongst members.
A first term lawmaker of the Delta State Assembly, who spoke with The Union Nigeria in confidence, said some of the lawmakers were in shock as some were not aware of the cost of their vehicles.
The lawmaker disclosed that transparency and accountability to the house is farfetched in the leadership of the speaker, sheriff Oborevwori.
“As I speak with you, we don’t know how much the speaker has spent so far in the renovation of the fencing in our quarter, talk less of the fence decoration project on going at the Assembly Complex.” He said.
Another lawmaker who did not also want his name in print, lamented that but for the petition, he wouldn’t know the cost of their vehicles.
“We are not treated as equals by the speaker. The governor’s grace is what has kept him on the seat, if not he would have been impeached.” He stated.
