Kashim Shettima, the vice president, has criticised the All Progressives Congress, his political party, for their poor performance in Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State.
The vice president seems to be criticising the government of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor who has since defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
According to The Intercept, farmers, traders, and families found life intolerable for years due to the instability and constant killings that afflicted the Southern Kaduna region.
Nonetheless, a permanent security presence has been established, which many people think will improve safety, discourage assaults, and rebuild public trust.
The relative calm in the area has also been aided by Tinubu’s selection of General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Chief of Defence Staff.

Among other things, Tinubu gave his consent to the Federal University of Applied Science in the area, the construction of a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, and the construction of a military barracks in Samaru Kataf.
Bashir El-Rufai, son of Nasir El-Rufai, was forced to apologise at some time after his inflammatory remark about the massacres in Southern Kaduna sparked significant outrage, according to The Intercept.
In a contentious tweet, Bashir implied that if locals in Southern Kaduna kept attacking Fulani herders, the deaths would continue. He later expressed regret.

Speaking to party members, Shettima highlighted some of the accomplishments of President Bola Tinubu’s government in Southern Kaduna, saying, “He [Tinubu] has shown leadership.” He has been generous. He has demonstrated the capacity to embrace all inclinations and reach out to the other side of the Isle.
“Just two weeks ago, he [President Tinubu] signed the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.
“You and I know that, in terms of performance, the APC performed woefully in Southern Kaduna, but leadership is about inclusivity.”
The President Muhammadu Buhari administration was heavily criticized for its handling of the security situation in Southern Kaduna as both the State and the Federal government seemed not to have done enough to end the shedding of blood.
