A jailbreak in Kogi State early Monday resulted in the escape of twelve prisoners.
Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, verified this in a statement released by the Kogi State Government.
He commended the security forces’ prompt action in responding to the 12 detainees who broke out of the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe.
Fanwo called the occurrence “unfortunate” and reassured the public that the State administration was acting decisively to stop it from happening again.
According to him, the Kogi State administration committed to engaging with security authorities to investigate the reasons underlying the event.

“The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns.
“This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system,” Fanwo said.

The State Security Adviser has been instructed by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to work with the Federal Correctional Centre and other security agencies to prevent future security breaches, Fanwo continued.
Additionally, the state government has reiterated its dedication to providing logistics and other resource assistance to federal security services in order to improve their operational efficacy.
Residents have been reassured by the authorities that the issue is under control as investigations proceed.
“There is no cause for panic. We encourage citizens to go about their daily activities as normal, knowing that the security of lives and property remains our top priority,” he added.
