In order to safeguard public facilities around the state, the Jigawa State Government has authorised the recruitment of 9,970 security guards.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sagir Ahmed, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture revealed this, stating that the consent was given during the State Executive Council meeting.
Ahmed stated that the Committee on the Safety of Schools, Health Institutions, and Courts’ recommendations served as the foundation for the decision.
“The council approved the report of the committee, which recommends the adoption of preventive security measures to ensure maximum protection for all primary and secondary schools, high courts, magistrate and Shari’a courts, primary health centres, and general hospitals across the state,” he said.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at enhancing security and fostering local employment by engaging Indigenous private security firms to recruit youths from their respective communities.
“This will not only provide job opportunities but also instill a sense of responsibility among locals in securing their own communities,” he added.
The commissioner expressed optimism that the initiative would help curb crime and improve safety around public institutions.

Meanwhile, the state government has also approved a waiver of N112.01m for 335 victims of the 2024 floods enrolled in the Jigawa State Rice Millionaire Project.
Ahmed said the waiver covers the cost of seeds, fertilisers, agrochemicals, and labour to support the affected farmers.
“This decision underscores the government’s commitment to easing the burden on flood victims and ensuring their quick recovery,” he said.
