After being held captive for 56 days, Brig. Gen. Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), the former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been released.
On February 5, 2025, Tsiga and nine other locals were kidnapped from their community in Katsina State’s Bakori Local Government Area.
His kidnappers imprisoned him for further weeks before releasing him, even after his family paid a ransom.
There are differing reports on the amount of the ransom; some say N60 million was paid.

However, The Intercept said reliable sources indicate the actual sum was three times higher.
A family member disclosed that after the payment, the kidnappers remained silent for a week before allowing Tsiga to speak with his family.
Although the abductors later demanded additional funds, no further payment was made.
