Seriake Dickson, the former governor of Bayelsa, has expressed sympathy to the governors of Benue and the Plateau over the recent murders in their states.
The incidents were characterised as “dastardly and callous” attacks on innocent lives by the previous governor of Bayelsa.
Dickson made this claim in a statement on Thursday, claiming that violence, lawlessness, and crime had become more common in a number of states, including Benue, Plateau, and Zamfara.

The congressman compared the ongoing bandit assaults on innocent people to the Boko Haram insurgency that tore through the Northeast and denounced them.
He called for urgent action, stating that the nation’s leadership and security chiefs must have an honest conversation about addressing the worsening security situation.
Dickson noted that the crisis was caused by a number of factors, such as resource competition, illicit mining, conflicts related to climate change, and ongoing conflicts between farmers and herders.

The congressman recommended funding and enforcing sustainable practices through the appropriate ministries and agencies.
He stressed that fighting bandits and enforcing the grazing prohibition are national imperatives that call for cooperation between security forces and local authorities.
Dickson explained that such attacks are evidence of state failure and collapse, promising to raise these issues with relevant authorities in the coming days.
