A N30 million ransom is being demanded by gunmen who kidnapped Abdulsalam Rabi’u, the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition winner, to free him.
According to The Intercept, Rabi’u, his father, and his siblings were abducted by criminal forces on Tuesday in the Katsina State neighbourhood of Labin Bangori.
Rabi’u, a medical student at Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, and an impoverished Katsina State resident, won the Hizb 60 competition with Tajweed, which was formerly conducted in Kebbi State.

Following an invitation from Governor Dikko Umar Radda to attend a special appreciation event at Government House with his father, he was abducted.
After the ceremony, Rabi’u was reportedly kidnapped by the gunmen on his way home with his father and other family members.
The Katsina State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu-Zango, in an interview on Saturday, confirmed that the abductors had demanded N30m ransom.
According to him, the governor, who was deeply concerned about the ugly situation, is making all efforts to ensure the release of the victims.
