A Nigerian doctor named Joe Madu has passed away, allegedly due to the denial of sick leave.
The medical practitioner’s passing was shared by his colleague, Richard Chukwuezi, via a Whatsapp tribute post.
Expressing profound grief, Richard Chukwuezi described his colleagues’ passing as a shock, blaming the negligence of Nigeria’s health sector.

The chat reveals the colleague complaining of severe cough and chest pain, with his sick leave denied.
“I am having serious cough and chest pain.I wanted to take sick leave , Dem no gree”, He stated.
Although the hospital’s details remain undisclosed, with netizens demanding justice and improvements in Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, January 26, 2025, after a prolonged and contentious custody battle with his ex-wife.
Reports indicate that the 36 years old cardiologist had been embroiled in a lengthy divorce case that included disputes over child custody and financial obligations.

The court’s decision, which favoured his ex-wife, was said to have placed an immense financial burden on him.
A Nigerian American, Clayton Udo, confirmed the incident in a post on X.com.

“The abuse of African men in the USA must come to an end. In a deeply troubling case, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, an American-trained cardiologist, allegedly took his own life after an American court ordered him to pay his ex-wife $15,000 monthly, following a prolonged and contentious divorce case.
