In response to the recent killings in the state, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang called a meeting with important stakeholders on Monday.
Mutfwang, who spoke at the event, stated that the goal of the conference was to devise strategies for dealing with the frequent attacks and wilful damage of property in the state.
The governor clarified that the conference also sought to bring important parties together in order to put a stop to the threat, stating that the state’s security issues have persisted for more than 20 years.
However, Mutfwang praised President Bola Tinubu for the steps taken to address the state’s security issues, claiming that insecurity had seriously threatened Plateau’s economic prosperity.
He said, “Right from the time the Jos market was burnt to this point, you will discover that even food production in Plateau has been on the decline.

“Recently, we took stock of farmlands which our people have not been able to cultivate because attempting to cultivate those farmlands is at the risk of their lives.
“There is no part of this state that does not have its share of insecurity, so we must come together as a people to address this issue.

“This is why we called all of you here, so we can rob minds and find lasting solutions to the security challenges in our dear state.”
The governor called on the stakeholders to be open and make positive suggestions that would lead to lasting peace in the state.
According to The Intercept, retired Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum, former state governors Fidelis Tapgun, Joshua Dariye, and Jonah Jang attended the meeting, which subsequently took place behind closed doors.
Members of the House of Representatives, senators, government officials, women’s and youth organisations, traditional and religious leaders, and others were among the various stakeholders who attended the conference.
