Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, said that N8 billion was set aside by the current administration for this year’s Ramadan food program.
Yusuf made this revelation on Friday in the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, during the flag-off of the distribution of 1,250 cartons of dates given by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Sanusi Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, made this announcement on Saturday.
Yusuf, who was accompanied by Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government, thanked Khalil Adamawi, the Saudi Consul-General in Kano, for the kind gesture, stating that it was the fourth time the state had received a contribution of this kind.
He added that the donation comes at the right time when the present administration is making concerted efforts to provide food items to the less privileged in the society, considering the economic hardship faced by citizens.

He stated that Kano is the most peaceful state in Nigeria, noting that this attracted many people to come and settle in the state, which also brought additional pressure on the government, particularly on health and infrastructure.
“Your Excellency, this year, Ramadan is coming at a very difficult time when Kano State is the only inland of peace in northern Nigeria, so the pressure on the Government, on the people, on the infrastructure is enormous,” he lamented
The governor appealed to the Saudi Arabian Kingdom to come and build a psychiatric hospital and renovate the Displaced Children Camp in the state with a view to improving the condition of these personalities.
Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the long cordial relationship existing between the Kingdom and the people of the state, promising to cement it for the benefit of the two governments.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Kibiya, described Saudi Arabia as a strong pillar of humanitarian affairs globally, applauding them for the good gesture accorded to the good people of the state.
The Consul-General, Ahmad Adamawi, reaffirmed the Saudi Arabia Kingdom’s commitment towards providing humanitarian assistance to the Kano State Government.
He praised Yusuf for the gigantic projects being executed in the state, especially in heath, 3ducation and infrastructure developments.

During the event, the dates were distributed to Associations of People with Disabilities and some Islamic clerics among others.
Meanwhile, Yusuf has called on the business community to reduce the prices of essential commodities to enable Muslims to maximise the Ramadan period physically and spiritually.
He stated this in his Ramadan Message to the people of the state.
The governor urged the people to support one another, especially relatives and the vulnerable, saying feeding in this month is very significant.
Yusuf called on citizens to live with one another in peace and to devote their times in worshipping and supplications for more blessings to the state.
