Due to the frequent kidnappings and murders in his territory, Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, the traditional ruler of Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area, has been suspended by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
According to The Intercept, the governor declared that the traditional ruler’s suspension would be indefinite and effective immediately.
In a statement sent to reporters by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on April 21, 2025, the Governor declared the traditional ruler’s suspension.

The statement said the secretary to the traditional ruler, Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, has since been arrested by the relevant authorities following a recent incident that led to the death of a Palace Chief, the Late John Ikhamate.
The Intercept recalls that on Monday, March 3, 2025, suspected kidnappers abducted a Catholic priest identified as Philip Ekeli and Peter Andrew, a seminarian.
The duo were abducted at about 11:30 pm at St. Peter Catholic Church in Iviukwa, near Agenebode in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
While the Catholic Priest was released by the kidnappers, the Seminarian was, however, killed by the abductors
