With few days to Christmas, the Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, CP Echeng Echeng has assured residents of Anambra State of the Police Command’s readiness to perform its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and properties of all citizens during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
To this end, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of officers and men comprising conventional police, traffic warders and other tactical teams of the Command as well as necessary logistics to all major highways, residential areas, places of worship and places of public resort etc.
He said that the Personnel deployed for this critical assignment are under strict instruction to be civil, professional but firm in the discharge of their duties.
“The Command is already in partnership with Sister Security Agencies and all critical stakeholders to ensure that, the celebration is peaceful and hitch-free.
The CP further advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and reiterate the ban on the use of fireworks, knockouts and other explosives during festivities is still in force.
He noted that the use of knockouts and fireworks, aside constituting nuisance and disturbance to public peace and safety, is also capable of causing unnecessary fear and apprehension and other dangers associated to its usage especially during the harmattan period.
This, he reiterates, is in addition to the possibility of providing an escape space for criminals after the commission of a crime.
Furthermore, the Command is prepared to deal with hoodlums and other disgruntled elements that may attempt to cause break down of law and order before, during and after the festive period.
The CP extended his warm greetings to Christian faithful and other citizens in the state, as they celebrate Christmas and New Year and enjoins them to be vigilant and security conscious and to report all suspicious movements to the Police or, in case of any emergencies, to call *112 or 07039194332* for immediate response.
