Two ‘Almajiris” have been confirmed dead and three others sustained life-threatening injuries as one-storey building collapsed at Hotoro quarters behind Chula filling station in Kano.
The deceased are Aliyu Sulaiman (27 years) and Abdulganiyyu Sulaiman from Garko and Kibiya local government areas as confirmed by their teacher Sulaiman Abubakar.
He said the incident happened around 3:08 in the early hours of Saturday while the deceased were sleeping under the collapsed structure.
He said uncompleted structure was close to a traditional Quranic school (Makarantar Allo) where the affected students shared a temporary abode.
A resident of the area said that the collapse rest squarely on low-quality materials deployed by the private owner in the construction.
Effort to reach the spokesperson of Kano State Fire Service, an agency responsible for providing rescue operation was unsuccessful as his known number was not going.
On March 17 the State Fire Service reported the death of one person and several persons injured after a three-storey buildings collapsed along Ahmadu Bello way in Kano State.
It was gathered that the story building which is under construction collapsed with several workers trapped within it.
The state fire service disclosed that only two workers were trapped in the slam when the building came down.
