As part of intent to foster viable relationship between the police and the public, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Gwarinpa Division, Saturday took a sensitization walk round the city.
The Sensitization walk which held round the first, second third and fourth avenues of Gwarinpa, Abuja witnessed large turnout of members as well as residents.
Speaking to The Union Nigeria, the Chairman, PCRC Gwarinpa Division, Alhaji Aminu Bappa, said the need for synergy between the police and the community cannot be over emphasized hence the need for the sensitization walk.
He said the walk would not only create the requisite awareness, but would also ensure the fitness of members who participate.
According to him, the primary responsibility of PCRC is to provide support and assistance to the Police and others security agencies to help in prevention, prosecution and fight against crime at all levels.
Alhaji Aminu stressed that good police-community relation is important for building trust between police and citizens.
“Without this trust, police work becomes much less effective. Even if the police officers are preventing crime, the people may not feel safe because there is no trust.”
He urged well-meaning Nigerians to join the PCRC in order to better understand the workings of the police force which would further foster a better working relationship.
“I urge good citizens to identify with the PCRC and register membership. PCRC function is to mediate between the police and the community. This way our security becomes a collective responsibility.” He said.
