It was all smiles and tears of joy for Mrs Chinenye Agu, a nursing mother who was detained alongside her baby by the management of Ifechukwu Hospital, Umuoji, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, over inability to pay bills as she was rescued by a good spirited Nigeria who defrayed the cost of the treatment.
The woman who hails from Ezeagu in Enugu State but lives in Afor-Nkpor in Idemili North Council Area was delivered of a baby girl through caesarian section at the Hospital, in May this year.
Mrs Agu was given a bill of N458,000, and following her inability to pay, she was detained in the hospital, while her mattress was removed from the ward and allegedly kept somewhere else.
Mrs Agu on Tuesday spoke to journalists soliciting financial assistance from good spirited individuals and philanthropists to enable her take her baby home.
On Wednesday however, The Union Nigeria gathered that a good Nigerian had written a cheque to the women, defraying the cost of the treatment.
Mrs Agu who was full of thanks acknowledged that immediately after the publication, her phone kept buzzing with phone calls, while many people donated to her account.
In her words “I am so happy for what has happened to me between yesterday and today. People have been sending money to my account. I will possibly leave this hospital today or tomorrow,” she said.
