More details have emerged on the attack by bandits on Efab Queens Estate in Gwarinpa, 6th Avenue, Abuja.
A visit by The Union Nigeria to the crime scene at about 7am Monday morning, witnessed ongoing investigation and inspection by plain clothes detectives and management of the Estate.
The Union Nigeria broke an unconfirmed story of an ongoing attack at Genuine estate, but has confirmed that the incident happened at Efab Queens a neighbouring estate.
At the crime scene, the Security Man attached to the property simply identified as Mr Isaac E., narrated that he heard strange noise around 3.30am and before he knew what was happening over 10 men brandishing knives, machetes and daggers were inside his compound.
He said his gate house door was badged in and he was tied up.
“They took my phones and went into the main building.”
Our reporter was prevented from accessing the main building, however, the main entrance security door was obviously compromised and hanging on its hinges.
Our reporter also observed that the barbed wires on the perimeter fencing of the property were pulled off their roots and hanging loose.
In the neighbouring compound, a lady simply Identified as Esther, said she was woken up by noise from her neighbours compound.
Recounting, “I went to my sitting room, climbed my couch and peeped through my window. I saw about seven men in my neighbour’s compound.
“Before I could say jack, four of them climbed into my compound. I heard them dragging their machetes on the ground and chanting their native language.
“The operation lasted till about 4am when I heard two gunshots. I knew the police had arrived.”
The Efab estate manager, Mr Philip Oyelakin, did not disclose the number of victims but promised to brief the press after approval from the estate board.
Meanwhile, one of the estate residents (name undisclosed) who was part of the inspection stated that some of the victims sustained injuries and were undergoing treatment.
He said others were at the police station to give account of what happened.
“In all, we can say the bandits were over twenty as some were outside the gates keeping an eye out for security.” he said.
Although, effort to reach the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, proved abortive, a sister media house who was able to get through stated that the police has confirmed to newsmen that the case was a robbery case, not kidnapping.
