Aliko Dangote, Nigerian billionaire has named the road leading to his oil refinery after Herbert Wigwe.
Aliko Dangote revealed this while paying homage to Wigwe during a tribute by professionals on Monday March 4th 2023.
“I stand here today with a sense of profound loss, feeling of utter helplessness. I feel very helpless because I could not prevent the tragedy that befell my friend, brother, mentee and a very loyal friend for that matter,” he stated.
“To immortalise my beloved friend, my brother, and my mentee, I have actually decided to name a major refinery and petrochemical road, out of the 120 kilometers, the biggest road will now be named ‘Herbert Wigwe,” he said.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-American President Bill Clinton, were among a horde of mourners who yesterday paid glowing tributes to Dr. Herbert Wigwe.

On February 10, 2024, Wigwe was engaged in a helicopter crash in the United States with his wife, son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group).
All six passengers onboard the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter died.
Wigwe founded Wigwe University before to his passing. From 2002 until 2014, when he was appointed group managing director and CEO of Access Bank, he served as the deputy managing director.
Wigwe also served as chairman of Access Bank (UK) Limited and Unified Payments Services Limited. Previously, he held the position of chairman of Access Bank (Ghana), Access Investment & Securities Limited, Central Securities and Clearing System (CSCS).
