The impeached speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has asserted that Mojisola Meranda has resigned from her role as head of the legislature.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Obasa asserted that Meranda publicly announced her resignation to All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Lagos during a gathering in the state’s Marina neighbourhood.
When asked why Meranda’s security aides were removed but his was reinstated, Obasa made this assertion.
“When my own security personnel were removed even when I was not around without my knowledge, without my consent, did I complain? Obasa asked.

“There was a meeting that took place in Marina where we had in attendance all the party leaders. Openly, Meranda herself made the statement that she had stepped down, she had resigned.
“So, when you resign from an office, the paraphernalia of the office would be taken away. What are you saying?”
Although impeachment is a democratic and constitutional process, he said, it must be carried out following established protocols.

Meranda’s security guards were removed earlier today.
Obasa claimed to have returned to his role as speaker of the house shortly after, but the assembly members promptly denied his assertion.
Additionally, the impeached speaker had led a “plenary session” with just four MPs present.
Despite being present at the assembly building, the majority of the 40 members of the state assembly declined to take part in the session.
Later, Lagos Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh said that Meranda’s security detail had been reinstated by the command.
According to Jimoh, the purpose of the audit of the security guards assigned to certain people and establishments was to make sure that the police officers and their firearms were there.
The police commissioner said various state commands around the nation are now conducting a continuous audit of police officers.
He went on to say that the public interest was the only reason behind the removal of Meranda’s security detail.
