The Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency’s registered voters in Enugu State have begun the recall process for Hon. Martins Oke, their representative in the House of Representatives.
According to The Intercept, this was included in a petition letter sent to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 27, 2025.
The petitioners, who were represented by Mr. Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba, Mr. Clinton Ogbonna, Mr. Sabinus Amah, and Mr. Stephen Okenwa, stated that one of the grounds for the action was the lawmaker’s failure to perform.
“This is his 3rd term in the Federal House of Representatives. There’s no popular bill or motion to his name.
“There are no visible constituency projects to his name, and we don’t see or hear him during the NASS sittings. He contributes NOTHING to local , State or national discourse. He isn’t representing us at all”, they said.
Additionally, according to the petitioners, Martins Oke was pushed on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) “against the wishes of the party” and was not legitimately elected by the electorate.

“The lawmaker lost the general election by a large margin, but the Appeal Court declared him winner based on technicalities,” they claim. We wish to reclaim our mandate, which he stole through the legal system.
They said that the legislator “is hardly seen in his constituency” and lacked a local office.
“He has never held a town hall meeting to interact with his constituents and remains completely disconnected from the people.
“We don’t see him at home, we don’t see him on TV, and we still don’t see him on the seat during NASS Sessions.

“He has shown a lack of commitment to the welfare of his constituents, failing to address pressing issues affecting the people of Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency,” the constituents said.
The letter claimed that by the constitutional requirements, the petition was duly signed by at least 50% of registered voters in the constituency.
