Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, responded to the accusations of sexual harassment made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Wednesday as the Senate resumed plenary after a week-long break.
“At no time did I ever harass any woman,” Akpabio stated, rejecting the accusations.

“I was raised very well by my late single mother, and I have always upheld respect for women.
“I was even awarded the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan, however, filed a petition under Order 40 shortly after Akpabio’s comments, accusing the Senate President of sexual harassment and official abuse.
To formally present the petition before the chamber, the female lawmakers asked for authorisation to do so.
Ultimately, the Senate directed the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct to consider the petition as soon as possible.
