Governor Mohammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has granted amnesty to 79 inmates in all the 11 correctional centres and one reformatory home in the State.
The public Relations Officer of the correctional service, Jigawa state command, Muhammadu Sani Jahun, in a press statement made available to news men in Dutse, the state capital, said the governor granted the amnesty through the attorney general and commissioner of justice, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu.
The attorney general charged the released inmates to be law abiding citizens.
The State Comptroller of correctional service Jigawa command, Alhaji Mu’azu Garba Charanchi thanked the governor for the kind gesture.
He said the service is working tirelessly to ensure that inmates brought to the state correctional facilities are treated with human dignity and exposed to vocational skills training and educational programs for their reformation, rehabilitation and possible re-integration to the larger society.
The state government also gave cash assistance to the inmates that were set free, as transport fair to their respective destinations.
