A petition to bar and strip immediate past Delta State Attorney-General, Peter Mrakpor, of his Senior Advocate of Nigeria title, has hit the tables of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
A source told The Union Nigeria, that the petition covered certain alleged anomalies which stood embarrassing to Delta State Judiciary as identified by the petitioners.
“The implication of Mrakpor’s alleged misconduct among which is to strip him of the rank of SAN, bar him from practicing Law for life and or refund the sum as contained in the petitioners’ petition which has been found to be meritorious by the NBA”, the source stated.
Mrakpor who hails from Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state is to defend himself before the dual Chairman of the Legal Practitioner Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) in the persons of JB. Dawudu SAN, and the prosecutor, Jubril Okutepa SAN.
The source disclosed that, “The loads of crimes allegedly committed by Peter Mrakpor have been embarrassing and disgraceful to the Delta State Judiciary, the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and lawyers across the country.
“Peter Mrakpor’s alleged financial miss-appropriateness has forced the Nigerian Bar Association to accept the petition against Peter Mrakpor to the NBA”
“The applicant has finished his case while Mrakpor is yet to put up his defense before the dual Chairman of the Legal Practitioner Disciplinary Committee (LPDC)”
“The Delta State Governor and State Government is advised to deal away with persons of questionable character to stop the continuous embarrassment the state has experienced for some time.”
Allegations Are False, The Case Has Nothing To Do With Money – Mrakpor
Reacting to the allegations, the former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Mr Peter Mrakpor, who spoke with The Union Nigeria described the allegations as false.
“The case has nothing to do with money, not a kobo. It is a chieftaincy matter in Ogwashi-uku.
“Government took a position and the man quarreled that why should government take such position through me as Attorney General?. That is the case.”
“There is no accusation of money. On the 8th of July come to the court and you will see, unless you don’t know who I am.”
“It has nothing to do with money. I work on trust and people trust me as a lawyer. I am 31 years as a lawyer. It is not money, I have nothing to do with money. It hurts me.” He said.
