United Nations Rescue Services has raised concern that Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder with over 10m out of school children roaming the streets that are available as easy recruits by insurgency.

The UN International Chairman, security and intelligence, African Affairs Ambassador Steve Madila who spoke in Abuja at a media briefing on Wednesday said they are developing vocational  training centers of minimum three months and maximum one year to keep the out of school children busy as the idle mind is the devils workshop.

He said, the United Nations program on eradication of extreme poverty and hunger was born in 2021 to advocate on sustainable development goals.

“Before the year 2000 we heard about the Millennium Development goals. It was established because the UN carried out research and found out that about 2.5 billion people on planet earth were living below poverty line and their definition of living below poverty line is if you cannot afford to spend at least $2 per day on yourself.

“$2 is less than N1000. In Nigeria poverty walks on its two legs, there are some people that go out and don’t come back to their houses until another 6pm”

“In Nigeria 50,000,000 bags of cement was delivered in IDP camps in the north east, to deliver affordable housing with a minimum of 5,000, 000 naira Nigerians that are 18 years old can have access to affordable housing project.

 “Our goal is to deliver at least 10,000 housing units across the 6 political zones of Nigeria. The condition for giving you a house that will last 1000 years.

”Civil servants and people in the informal sectors like barbers, taxi drivers that can accumulate between  300,000 to 500,000 can choose from a one bedroom to a two bedroom bungalow, and above.

“We target people who have lost hope of owning houses of their own and 40 federal Government agencies including NNPC NTA , radio Nigeria, DSS, EFCC,ICPC and the police who are in dire need for houses because government cannot provide housing for them.

“These have made us to expand our project to 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT.”

He said they will also bring about revolutionary health services in the 6 geopolitical zones such that it would be made medical hub with 1000 hospitals dedicated to women and children.

“These hospitals must have international airport facility to cater for patients in the state that need surgery.
