Concerns over the closing of elementary and secondary schools in several states during the Ramadan fast have been addressed by the Kano State Government.
In a recent interview with newsmen in Kano, Honourable Ahmad Tijjani Sani Lawal, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, discussed the matter and emphasised that the public’s welfare was taken into consideration while making the decision.
The Commissioner stated that the government wants to ensure that families and students may participate fully in religious observances without any hindrance.
He clarified that Ramadan is a holy time for Muslims and that the administration places a high premium on creating a space that is suitable for worship.
He reassured the populace that these actions were carried out under current laws and regulations.
Lawal reaffirmed that the Kano State Government is empowered to carry out policies which improve the welfare of its people.

He pointed out that every new policy, including closing schools, is well thought out to make sure it serves the public interest and preserves order in the educational system.
The Commissioner also urged the people to increase religious activities and prayers in order to maximise the fasting time.

He explicitly asked people to pray for their leaders, emphasising how crucial it is for those in positions of power to ask God for direction.
The choice to close schools ahead of Ramadan has generated debate in a number of states, with some people raising issues on how it may affect academic pursuits.
The Kano State Government, however, insists that the action is in the public’s best interest and guarantees locals that all required modifications would be done to avoid any detrimental impacts on the education of the pupils.
