The interior minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has directed an urgent and thorough investigation into claims of criminal activity at the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri, Delta State.
According to The Intercept, the order comes after recent media reports revealed purported criminal activity occurring within the facility.
Condemning the alleged infractions, the minister, in a statement on Tuesday by his spokesman, Babatunde Alao, reaffirmed his zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline and misconduct, vowing that those found culpable would face severe consequences.

“I will not allow indiscipline to fester under my nose. Any officer found wanting will face the full weight of the law. The leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) must provide explanations,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

Reiterating his commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability, the minister assured the public that the government remains steadfast in enforcing discipline within the country’s correctional facilities.
“We take these allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our correctional facilities,” he added.
The minister also urged members of the public to provide any relevant information that could aid the investigation.
“The minister calls on the general public to provide any relevant information that may aid in the investigation,” the statement added.
