In a series of well-planned operations around the state, the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 22 people in possession of varying amounts of illegal narcotics.
This was revealed in a statement released in Kano on Friday by Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the command’s public relations officer.
He said that the arrests were a part of the State Commander’s (Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad) stepped-up efforts to fight drug-related crimes in the state.

“On April 10, the agency dislodged several drug hot-spots located at the Dan’agundi Construction Site, Gwangwazo Area, Farm Centre along Zaria Road, Tashar Rami, and Filin Idi in Kano,” Muhammad-Maigatari stated.
“The operation underscores the command’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug trafficking and abuse, which continue to pose serious threats to public safety and the well-being of communities.”
Significant amounts of various illegal drugs, such as cannabis sativa, “suck and die,” rubber solution, and other locally manufactured weapons, were found during the operation, he continued.

He said that investigations were being conducted to find the dealers among the suspects and that those found guilty would face the appropriate charges in court.
“In line with the agency’s public health strategy, individuals found to be drug users will be referred to the command’s Drug Demand Reduction Programme for counselling and rehabilitation.
“This dual approach aims not only to curb drug trafficking but also to support individuals struggling with substance abuse,” Muhammad-Maigatari added.
