A part-time lecturer of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, now known as the Lagos State University of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, Kolawole Muyiwa has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.
The ruling was delivered Thursday by Justice Rahman Oshodi. He concluded that the survivor’s testimony supported the attorney’s and the IPO’s, according to a statement released by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency on Saturday.

“Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday, February 27 2025, convicted and sentenced a part-time lecturer at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (now Lagos State University of Education), Kolawole Muyiwa, to life imprisonment for raping a student,” the agency said.
On October 6, 2023, the convicted individual entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation against him during his arraignment. The offence was committed at the institution on October 11, 2021.
The victim, Caroline Ibe, a lawyer and vice chairwoman of the Badagry branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, and Olufunke, the investigating police officer, were all summoned as evidence by the prosecution throughout the trial.

The judge said, “I note that you are a first-time offender with no criminal record, and you are married with three children and also served as a part-time lecturer. However, the gravity of the offence committed cannot be overlooked.”
“As a part-time lecturer, you occupied the position of trust and authority which you abused; the victim was a student at the institution where you taught.”
The lecturer was found guilty of violating section 260 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Laws, according to the prosecution. His name will be added to the state’s Sexual Offenders Register after his conviction.
