WARRI: The Warri South Local Government Council Chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi has warned community leader to stop allocating power to themselves.
He stated that never again would they allow any community leader to prevent security agents from carrying out their constitutional duties.
The chairman also appealed to all community leaders and citizens of the council to collaborate with security operatives where there is breach of peace.
Dr. Tidi gave this warning as part of his efforts to maintain the existing peace in Warri South Local Government Area, during the Inauguration of five new Supervisors to oversee various departments in the Local Government Council Area.
According to Michael Tidi, “My administration places high premium on peace and security.
“I will do everything within the ambit of the law to keep the existing peace in Warri South Local Government council Area.
“I appeal to all community leaders and citizens of this council to collaborate with security agents where there is breach of peace.
“Never again are we going to allow community leaders arrogate to themselves powers they do not have.
“There are a lot of things they have done in the past. We have forgiven them and they should not do those things again.
“They must not prevent security agents from coming into their communities. They have no right to do the job of police men.
“They are to allow the security agents do their jobs. They are to incident any cases to the police and allow them do their jobs.
“His Excellency the governor is really concerned about peace in this council. Despite been the economic nerve Centre, our attitude is driving away investors.
“We believe you are going to help this administration achieve these goals.
“To the new supervisors, I will not hesitate to dismiss any one of you found wanting in the course of carrying out your duties.
“I therefore, charge you the newly inaugurated Supervisors, to initiate fresh ideas that would move the administration forward, even as I tasked the Supervisor for Environment to take the environmental sanitation drive of this administration to the rural and urban areas of Warri South Council.
“Over the years we have seen public officers betray the trust reposed on them by relevant authorities. I will not hesitate to dismiss any public officer who is found wanting in the process of carrying out his duties.
“You are not civil servants, you are public servants and by that it means you must work round the clock.
“I want to charge you in the presence of your supporters, that this position is a call to service. This position is not for you think that you have arrived and that you are now going to make some millions.
“This administration is keen to developing the Primary Healthcare Centers (PHC), a committee has already given approval for the renovation of the Omadino Healthcare Center.
“We are very much concerned about restocking our PHC. Over the years we have been hearing that some of the matrons in some health centers sell drugs. These are some of the thing you should help us check.
“We cannot achieve the universal health coverage if our primary Healthcare Centers are not working,” Tidi said.
The Former Supervisor for Environment and Health, Ms Patricia Edun, was assigned the portfolio of Supervisor for Environment, while Sunny Bodor was assigned to health.
Oghenetega Kokoyon and Egboboyen Ovigwe Eniye, were assigned to agriculture and education respectively, while Sunny Mabiaku Omene, was assigned the portfolio of Youth, Sports and Culture, respectively.
Responding on behalf of the supervisors, the Supervisor for Environment, Patricia Edun, assured that they will not take the call to service for granted, promising to do everything possible to achieve the administration’s policy targets.
The members representing Warri South Constituency I and II in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Augustine Uroye and Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru respectively, Chairman of PDP in Warri South, Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Chief (Mrs.) Divine Ann Iniovosa, Mr. Johnson Agbeyegbe, immediate past Secretary to the Warri South Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye, Security Chiefs in the area, some past and present Councilors as well as Supervisors in Warri South and Warri South Council Head of Personnel Management, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Igbrude, were among dignitaries that graced the ceremony.
