A Federal High Court sitting in Kano State presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, has convicted a 46-year-old, Muhammad Adamu, to 15 years in Correctional Center for trafficking three Cameroonian nationale to Algeria en-route Kano State.
Adamu, a resident of Layin Azman Abu Ubaid Rijiyar Lemo, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State was said to have connived with Mr. Mbok, Mr. Kouam and Mr. Fabrice who are now at large and committed the crime.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffick In Persons, NAPTIP arraigned Adamu November 23rd, 2020 before Federal High Court, on three count charge in relation to human trafficking.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Barrister, Abdullahi Babale said sometime in 16th July, 2020, the convict connived with three Cameroonian nationale, that included two females, Sidiki Debongue Marie (25 year old) and Noumo Doris Diane (24 year old) and a male, Felix Nguiffo (16 year old).
Babale said during the investigation the Agency has recovered the sum of 262,000 CFA and 285,800 CFA from the victims who paid to him to facilitate the entry to Algeria en-route Kano but has refunded the monies to the victims.
To prove his case, the prosecution counsel presented four witnesses including the investigating Police Officer, IPO who testified against the defendant.
The Counsel to the Defendant, Fatima Jabir however pleaded to the court to be lenient in its judgment against the convict having shown remorse and pleaded guilty to the offence straight away.
The presiding Judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu while delivering his judgment sentenced the convict to five years imprisonment without option of fine on each count charge which is to run concurrently.
Justice Egwuatu sentenced the convict under Section 26 (2) of the Trafficking In Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015.
Meanwhile, the offence is contrary to Section 29 of the Trafficking In Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015.
