WARRI: Gunmen suspected to be assassins has reportedly killed a man identified simply as Ambassador Prince Godwin Metie, immediate past community leader of Ugbori, in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Ugbori community leader was killed in Merogun area, near Iyara community in same Warri South Local Government Area.
The Union Nigeria learnt that the incident occurred at about 9pm on Monday evening.
According to source, “the deceased (Amb, Prince Godwin Metie) is the Immediate past chairman of Ugbori community in Warri South Council Area of the state.
“The incident happened in Merogun area, near Iyara community, also within the LGA, on Monday”.
Details surrounding the incident were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report.
Another source claimed that “unconfirmed reports had it that Prince Metie was assassinated by gunmen who wore masks.

“The deceased was the chairman of Ugbori community who insisted that there was no Coronavirus spread in the community, after a patient who later died at the Delta State Teaching Hospital, Oghara, was reportedly admitted at a clinic in the area.”
When contacted for comment, the state Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the report.
She said, “yes something like that happened, but we are yet to get details of what really happened, I promised to get back to you with information on the matter involving the community leader of the Ugbori.
PPRO who later called back with information as promised to our warri correspondent said, ” yes, it is true, it was a cult clash.” The police image maker added.
