Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked a military check point killing one army officer and allegedly made away with his gun at Oton Community Sapele, Delta State.
The gunmen who allegedly came with a speed boat through the Oton River were said to have opened fire at the army officers who were at a checkpoint at the entrance of the community, close to the river.
The Union Nigeria gathered that a police man was also amongst those allegedly shot dead, however, as at the time of filing this report, this, cannot be independently verified.
A security source who spoke to one of our correspondent in confidence, while confirming the reported attack said, ”yes there was an attack, one army has been confirmed dead, but the situation is still not very clear.”
Gunmen Shot Man Dead In Warri
In another case, Gunmen suspected to be assassins reportedly shot a man identified simply as Mr Frank E. Nikoro dead, close to Water Resources junction along Warri Sapele road, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Union Nigeria learnt that the incident occurred on Friday morning.
A source said that “the deceased (Mr Frank Nikoro) is the immediate younger brother to Chief Ernest Nikoro.
“According to another source who do not want his name mention, “the deceased, Mr Frank Erhiyovwe Nikoro was murdered by unknown gun men. He was killed on the 15 January, 2021 at about 2pm.
“The incident happened at the front of Stanbic IBTC Bank (one way turn) going to Water Resources junction along Warri Sapele road.
“The matter was reported to Enerhen Police Station.
“It was as if he was trailed by assassins, because he parked his car in front of the bank and came down all for the assassins to come down from their car with riffle and try to force him to enter their car so he tried to run, immediately they shot at him at close range and he died immediately.
“We are suspecting his Caterpillar business partner, but, we are still doing our personal investigation to be sure.’
When contacted for comment, the State Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya could not confirmed the incident as she said that, “May be the incident has not been reported.” PPRO said.
Robbers shot two traders in Igbudu Market
Meanwhile, gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have reportedly shot two traders (men) at Bazunu road closed to Igbudu market in Warri South Local Government Area Of Delta State.
The Union Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday evening.
Sources said that, “the men are traders who were returning from the market after trade.
“The gunmen (robbers) shot at the traders numbering three as they were driving, and the car ran into drainage by the roadside.
“The unsuspected armed robbers allegedly laid siege and robbed unidentified numbers of traders.
A source claimed that, “one of the victims shot was driving a car, he was reportedly shot for refusing to yield to their (armed robbers) order.
“The robbers did not come for the traders but were said to have successfully robbed someone who they came for in the area, in process turning on the car owner who drove into the scene”.
Another source identified simply as Austin said that, “They tried to take his car, but he refused and drove into drainage as he tried to run away they shot him.
“The victims have been taking to an unknown hospital where they are receiving treatment.”
It could not be confirmed if anybody died or not”.
When contacted for comment, the state police public relations officer PPRO, Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the incident.
She said, “Yes, it is confirmed, two person was shot at Bazunu. They are responding to treatment.
“The two of them are traders coming back from market. The car was seen stains with blood. They were taking to an unknown hospital.” PPRO added.
