On Saturday, March 2nd 2023, the Nigerian entertainment industry was thrown into mourning with the death of legendary actor John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu who died from a cardiac arrest.
The comedian known for his comedic prowess in every movie he featured had been in the news due to his ill health before he gave up the ghost over the weekend.
Mr Ibu made us laugh and cracked our ribs in all the movies he featured in, and won’t be forgotten in a hurry. In light of celebrating this Nollywood enigma, we remember five movies that brought Mr Ibu to limelight.
1. Mr Ibu (2004)
This film shot the deceased actor to limelight. The actor thrilled us with his funny conversations and mannerisms, and we couldn’t wait for a sequel.

2. Mr Ibu in London (2004)
In this film, Mr Ibu had travelled to London(United Kingdom). He played the role of a local man from Nigeria trying to navigate his way in a whiteman’s land.
3. Mr Ibu and His Son
This film, which perfectly balances heart and humour, examines the relationship between Mr. Ibu and his son. The film which is evidence of Okafor’s versatility as an actor, showed that he can give light hearted performances that also address family values.
4. Police Recruit (2003)
In the comedy-drama Police Recruit, he plays a comically incompetent man who must go through police training. His portrayal in this movie is proof of his innate talent to make people laugh.
5. A Fool at Forty (2004)
The main character, Okafor, learns valuable lessons in life in the endearing comedy A Fool at Forty. This film was a quintessential illustration of his ability to combine humour with poignant storytelling.
