Singer/activist Eedris Abdulkareem has launched the “Tell Your Papa” challenge on social media, amid the federal government ban of the song.
Nigerian government had banned the singer’s newly released anti-Tinubu song “Tell Your Papa” on all radio and television stations.
The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, in a memo signed by its Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, tagged the song as “inappropriate and offensive”.
Reacting to the ban, Abdulkareem in an Instagram post, labelled the government actions as an “attempt to silence the truth and suppress criticism”.
However, the singer, in a new development on Sunday, launched the “Tell Your Papa” challenge on his Instagram page, stating that it’s time to speak the truth to power.

Sharing the challenge post, he wrote, “Nothing strengthens authority so much as silence. There is a time to speak and a time to keep silent. This is the time to speak and make your voice heard”.
Meanwhile, Eedris Abdulkareem alleges that anonymous individuals attempted to bribe him with N200 million after the ban of his latest song ‘Tell Your Papa’.
In an Instagram post Abdulkareem narrated a phone conversation with someone who initially claimed to be an “honourable” and later identified himself as a senator.
Eedris Abdulkareem said the caller offered him N200 million, which he refused to accept.
“He told me he is an honourable. The [person] told me, ‘I was in a meeting yesterday with Seyi and this government, they’re trying to call you and bribe you, don’t listen to them. We are going to be sponsoring you underground,’”
he said.
“I said, ‘Who told you that I need anything?’. As I heard his voice, I know say this one na send wey dem send am. I said I’m not interested. He said ‘We’ll give you N200 million. Don’t even listen to them, we’ll sponsor you underground’.”
