Top Nigerian comedian Daniel Nnwoka, Aka Deehumorous, says Grammy winner Burna Boy once worked as an on-air personality (OAP) at Rhythm 93.7 FM in *Port Harcourt.
In a recent interview on Naija FM, Deehumorous disclosed that he and Burna Boy were colleagues, hosting an afternoon show together before the Grammy-winning artist rose to fame.
According to Deehumorous, Burna Boy had already established himself as a talented singer long before gaining international recognition.
He also dismissed the common belief that ‘Like to Party’ (2012) was Burna Boy’s first song, clarifying that the artiste had previously released tracks like ‘Abeg Abeg’ and ‘Wonbolowo’ and had even performed live band concerts in Port Harcourt.
Deehumorous credited Wizkid for amplifying Burna Boy’s sound after the Starboy tweeted about him in 2012
“We were doing Afternoon shows with Valve and Owu on Rhythm 93.7 FM in Port Harcourt,” he said.
“Burna Boy’s sound has been unique from day one. By the time Lagos, or Nigeria, as it were, started asking who this Burna Boy was, we had enjoyed him well.

“And I can tell you that Port Harcourt releases hood songs day in day out, and I believe they still do. Then, every Wednesday at Rhythm FM was Naija Wednesday. At the time, there weren’t many Nigerian musicians.
“Every day, we had the likes of Double K, Ijaw Boys, and Thick Lips. They were plenty.
“This was in 2012 because my show was in September 2012.
“I was following Wizkid on Twitter at the time. So, as he lands in Nigeria from one of his US tours. And the next tweet he made was ‘Oh, who is this guy Burna Boy? I am just hearing him on the radio. At that time, Burna Boy had released ‘Abeg Abeg’ and ‘Wonbolobo’. Wizkid asked ‘Who is this guy? I want to meet him’.
“I do not know what happened afterwards. Do not forget that that at that time,, Burna Boy was also gaining recognition. But I can say that it was Wizkid who gave attention to Burna Boy’s sound. I believed that from there, the relationship soared.
It was when Burna Boy came to Lagos that he recorded ‘Like To Party’. That is why Lagos people believe that was his first song. But he had recorded two songs prior. He had even performed a concert with a live band at the time.
Some of the freestyles he does now, he has been doing it for a long time. Beautifully, he has someone like his mother.”
